The history of Sainte-Julie begins in the late 1840s, when farmers living in an area called the Grand Coteau met to request the creation of a parish in their area. They no longer wish to be served by a parish of Varennes.
At that time, the widow Julie Gauthier donated a plot of land to the religious community on the condition, in particular, that the Grand Coteau sector become a parish in its own right and that it be under the invocation of Saint Julie, his blessed patroness.
The farmers of Grand-Coteau therefore continued their efforts and these bore fruit on May 6, 1851, when the parish of Sainte-Julie was finally proclaimed civilly and legally.
