The citizens of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines celebrated the 200th anniversary of the founding of their parish in 1987. A commemorative plaque was installed in front of the town hall to highlight the event.
On July 18 of that same year, by virtue of a decree issued by the Quebec government, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines obtained its city status.
