The Quebec Potato Research Consortium (CRPTQ) officially took off in October 2017, when the entity was given a new name and a new board of directors was appointed. The strategic partners of the CRPTQ are: The Potato Producers of Quebec, the MAPAQ, the Financière agricole du Québec and the Les Buissons Research Center. Since then, several issues have been put forward, including, for example, work on reflection and consultation surrounding the modernization of the potato genetic improvement program, the start of the production of a business plan export triennial for seed potatoes, updating of general regulations, etc.
In fact, one of the strengths of the CRPTQ is its research program aimed at stimulating and channeling research synergies within the Quebec potato industry. This research program benefits from a contribution of $300,000/year for 5 years from a private source and from the Quebec Potato Producers (PPTQ). This sum aims to generate a significant leverage effect over the years. The agri-environmental component occupies a dominant place within the program.
At the same time, a first meeting of the Research Council took place on April 19, 2018. This Council's role is to recommend to the Board of Directors the research priorities and the projects to be funded. Here is the composition of the members of the research council.
