The town of Château-Richer is located in the Regional County Municipality of La Côte-de-Beaupré, east of Quebec City.
The city is bounded to the south by the St. Lawrence River; to the west, by the municipality of L'Ange-Gardien; to the east, by the town of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and to the north, by the municipality of Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval and the basin of the Montmorency River.
The city covers a huge territory, an area of almost 230 km². From east to west, it is 11 kilometers long and represents the longest and deepest inhabited territory of the entire Côte-de-Beaupré.
At the provincial level, Château-Richer is part of the electoral district 03 Charlevoix-Côte-de-Beaupré and at the federal level, it is part of the Beauport-Côte-de-Beaupré-Île d'Orléans-Charlevoix electoral district.
