Occupying the northern part of the MRC Thérèse-De Blainville, the city of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines is also an integral part of the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM). With an area of 92.79 km2, this rural agglomeration represents 48% of the territory of the MRC. In addition, its population of 15,214 people in 2018, gives it the 4th rank of the seven (7) municipalities constituting the MRC.
The main access to Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines is from the south, coming from Bois-des-Filion, via road 335 which is the extension of Highway 19. To the north, this road reaches the town of Terrebonne (La Plaine sector), which is also accessible by Rang du Trait-Carré. This same range joins the city of Mirabel to the south, or Sainte-Sophie to the west, via the Morel climb. The east of the territory is accessible from north to south by Sainte-Anne Boulevard, 5th Avenue and Rang Lepage. The Archambault Institute, a correctional institution, is also a major component of the territory of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.
