The village of Pont-Rouge and the parish of Ste-Jeanne-de-Pont-Rouge managed to maintain, despite their division in 1911, a good agreement allowing the purchase of goods and the establishment of services in common. This context favored their regrouping, on January 3, 1996, under the designation of City of Pont-Rouge.
