THE BEGINNING…
IT WAS AFTER PROVING HIS PROVEN WORK WITH A MONTREAL LANDSCAPING COMPANY THAT MAURICE BÉLANGER RETURNED TO AMQUI IN 1963 WITH THE FIRM INTENTION OF GOING INTO BUSINESS AS A LANDSCAPE WORKER.
THE ADVENTURE STARTED WITH A SHOVEL, A RAKE, A WHEELBARROW,
A GOOD OLD TRUCK AND ABOVE ALL A WILL OF STEEL.
THE FIRST ROLLS OF LAWN WERE CUT WITH THE HELP
FROM A MACHINE MADE BY HAND.
IN 1964 HE MARRIED A WOMAN WHO BECAME HIS SECRETARY
AND THE MOTHER OF HIS 3 CHILDREN. IN 1965, HE BUILT HIS FIRST GREENHOUSE
FLOWERS. THE EARLY YEARS HE WENT BY THE WAY
TO SELL AND DELIVER FLOWERS FOR $0.05 PER POT.
THEN ADDED THE MOWING OF THE GROUNDS OF THE NEWLY BUILT HOSPITAL, SOME RESIDENTIAL GROUNDS AND THE CEMETERY
(HE WAS LESS AFRAID OF THE DEAD THAN THE LIVE, HE SAID).
A FEW YEARS LATER, HE BECAME A MEMBER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF QUEBEC LANDSCAPERS.
IN 1972, SNOW REMOVAL FROM THE YARDS WAS ADDED AND IT WAS DURING THAT YEAR THAT THE COMPANY MAURICE BÉLANGER ENR. WAS FOUNDED.
IN 1974, IN ORDER TO ENABLE THE COMPANY TO GROW,
HE IS BUILDING NEW PREMISES BUT THIS TIME ON ROUTE 132
(BOUL. ST-BENOIT EAST TODAY) FOR BETTER VISIBILITY
AND BETTER ACCESSIBILITY FOR CUSTOMERS. AT THE TIME, HE HAD A FEW EMPLOYEES AND HIS WIFE TO HELP HIM.
IN THE 1980s-90s, THE THREE CHILDREN OF MAURICE, SERGE, SYLVAIN
AND BRUNO WORK WITH THEIR FATHER IN THE COMPANY.
AND IT WAS IN 1995 THAT SERGE, THE OLDEST OF HIS SON, LEAVING
FROM UNIVERSITY WITH A DEGREE IN AGRONOMY DECIDED TO TAKE
SUCCEEDS FROM HIS FATHER BY BUYING THE COMPANY.
