Around 1975, a number of musical organizations operated regularly in Joliette: a cultural center on which the presentation of concerts depended, several music schools, three youth orchestras, a summer music camp, a regional music competition, choirs … a musical environment was in place and waiting for something more.
In 1977, an opportunity presented itself to the director of the Cultural Centre, Father Fernand Lindsay, Clerc of St-Viateur, to risk three concerts of the Orchester symphonique de Montréal during the summer, in the Cathedral of Joliette. The reception of the public Joliettain is good. It's time to go further. Remembering the festivals he had attended in Europe a few years earlier, Father Lindsay saw that the time had come to realize what he had dreamed of. It was then that two allies joined him who would be at the heart of the development of the Festival for several years: Marcel Masse and René Charette.
