Located 20 km south of Matane, near the Chic-Choc Mountains, the municipality of Sainte-Paule began to develop at the end of the 19th century with the construction of a sawmill. Colonization began in the 1910s and a mission was established in 1923 to become a parish in 1948. For its part, the municipality was created in 1968.
