The City of Candiac was created by a special law of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec, on January 31, 1957. The Government of Quebec thus agreed to the request of a group of Canadian and European investors incorporated under the name of "Candiac Development Corporation” (now Développements urbains Candiac), which had acquired several former farms, mostly uncultivated, for the sum of $4.5 million. These were parcels of land totaling approximately 2,500 acres located in Delson, La Prairie, Saint-Constant and Saint-Philippe and bounded by the St. Lawrence River.
