The Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Rimouski-Neigette was created by government decree in May 1982, following the Act respecting land use planning and development (LAU). It succeeds the Rimouski County Council.
The realities specific to the different environments have largely modified the functioning of the RCMs since their creation. The composition of territories, socio-economic dynamics and demographics have major impacts on the roles and responsibilities assumed by RCMs, as well as on their organizational structure. Currently, there are almost as many organizational models as there are RCMs in Quebec. Over time, the RCM of Rimouski-Neigette has also developed a color related to its own specificities.
