Founded in December 1969, the Atelier Occupationnel Rive-Sud was formed by a group of parents of children living with an intellectual disability. At the time, there were very few services for these people. These are the same parents who took steps to obtain government services on the South Shore.
The Ministry of Social Affairs at the time was never able to serve all the clients requiring services. It is for this reason that the Atelier has been operating since 1969 on the basis of heart, volunteerism and donations.
The workshop therefore has its history for several decades, a story that will not stop today. It is a work of education and social integration. With regard to personalized objectives, people living with an intellectual disability now live in supervised housing, work in adapted work centres or in other adapted work training environments.
