The old village was named after its position on the south shore of Lake Baker. The lake is named in honor of John Baker, founder of the Baker Brook village who later discovered the lake.
The village of Lac-Baker is located in the county of Madawaska in the west of the province of New Brunswick. It is located at a distance of 35 km west of Edmundston between the Quebec border to the North, the DSL of Clair from the South, the DSL of Baker Brook to the East and the DSL of St-François to the West. Route 120 crosses Lac-Baker on a north-south axis to become Route 289 in Quebec. Lac-Baker is located 10 km north of the US border as the crow flies.
The Centennial of the Parish of Saint-Thomas d’Aquin de Lac Baker took place in 2004.
