The parish of Paquetville was founded in 1873 when a number of settlers came from Shippagan. Its founder Msgr. Paquet left his name to the parish. The first settler to settle in Paquetville was Dosithé Légère, accompanied by his wife, Rose Haché, and their three children.

“When one suspected beautiful fertile lands beneath the maples and spruces; when we had women's hands to spin the wool, bake the bread and participate in the heavy work; when we had human hands to sow wheat, cut and split wood; when we had a priest to bless the seeds of seed and celebrate the love of engaged couples: we had everything we needed to open a new parish.

This is how Paquetville began. The pioneers said to themselves, as Claudel will do a little later: There is no better country than the one we make for ourselves!

It was on November 9, 1966 that the village of Paquetville was incorporated into a municipality. This village of 720 inhabitants is considered the central point of the Acadian Peninsula between the city of Tracadie, Caraquet and Shippagan.

The 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are excerpts from the book by Mgr Donat Robichaud, parish priest of Paquetville from 1987 to 2000.
